Why should you learn self defense? You should, for the simple reason that we live in a very unsafe world and you can’t always depend on your country’s law enforcement officials to protect you. Even in a first world country like the US, over 200,000 women are raped or sexually assaulted each year – 40% of whom are under 18 and 80% below 30.
An organization that monitors sexual violence against women, RAIIN (Rape, Abuse, And Incest National Network), suggests that a woman is sexually assaulted in the US every 2 minutes, or 600 a day. These stats are validated by the National Organization for Women as well. These numbers include rapes that go unreported as well. Now, men and boys are sexually assaulted as well, but a majority of victims in such cases are women – there’s no question whatsoever.
As a woman, you can protect yourself better by NOT waiting for things to happen. Take action now, than regret later. One of the very first things you should do is to prepare yourself by learning self defense.
As a self defense instructor, I always advise women and girls to train in self defense BEFORE an assault ever happens. Don’t wait for the worst to happen or be under the belief that nothing can happen – the important thing is to be proactive, and to be prepared – so learn self defense NOW, rather than later. Don’t put it off any longer.
When you learn self defense, you will be able to project a confident demeanor when you are in danger. You will be able to hold your head up and maintain eye contact with the attacker. When you show that you are not scared and are ready to fight back, this creates doubt in the attacker’s mind.
The assaulter will reconsider his moves and possibly give up and just go away. Most assaulters are basically cowards, they slink back to the hole they have come from the moment you show a bit of a fight. You become a target only when you appear scared or timid and unable to fight back.
This is what self defense does to you – it empowers you in a very positive way. It gives you the confidence to fight back, not just against an attacker, but also at work or in personal life, when you feel under pressure.
It is for this reason that I recommend Krav Maga very highly. Now, Krav Maga is not just about winning a fight – it’s not even about winning. The true objective of Krav Maga is to deter a potential aggressor and to avoid conflict. Yes, if the attack were to occur, the self defense techniques that you learn in Krav Maga will protect you and ensure that you stay on top of the situation. Krav Maga is a critical self defense skill that every woman or girl must learn.
Now, as a woman, you should not be under the impression that since you are not as physically strong as men, you can’t fight as well as they do. That’s not true at all – women can actually be superior fighters to men. Women do have a lot of physical strength, they just don’t know about. Krav Maga helps you utilize your physical strength to its maximum.
The important thing, though, is to find time to learn and to motivate yourself sufficiently. This is something only you can do. We can train you in Krav Maga and teach you how to defend yourself, but it is up to you to make the first move and join our classes. You will thank us later, after you have sufficiently mastered all self defense techniques taught to you and feel a new confidence within yourself, a feeling of fearlessness, that you can take on any challenge in the world, whatsoever and come out as a WINNER, and NOT as a victim.
